from day one, to a day too many/

June 24th, 2008 by michael

simple little life trying to keep shit steady/ wake up in the morning it’s gonna be ok… “It’s a lovely dayy”

Enough with the top ten whoha. I’ve been anticipating this for a long time and the day has arrived, the new Al Green album titled “Lay It Down” is out and it sounds just like any other Al Green album, and that’s exactly what i had hoped for! ?uestlove on production, Dap Kings on horns. Soo Sweet.

So here is Tuesday’s show. for some reason the end is at the start?? it fixes up after a while. some of the start is missing as well. hmmm.

end every sentence with a DOT DOT DOT

June 19th, 2008 by michael

… mumma had a baby and it’s head popped off!

“Friday on a Saturday! Friday on a Saturday!…” – Soft Shoe

Because I couldn’t record Tuesdays show I re-created it somewhat today (Friday). Microphone was playing tricks on me.

Top Ten (in no order) according to my ears this week:

10. Nicole Willis and the Soul Investigators – A Perfect Kind Of Love (makes me happy. re capturing them old time sounds and feelings so very well)

10. Alicia Keys – Teenage Love Affair (amazing production. I am interested to hear some Erika Rose who supposedly co-writes some songs for Keys and has a new album of her own. Keys says “baby” a lot. I like it how in this song she makes noises in time to the break down.)

10. Lonnie Duvall – Cigarettes (a dude from http://crudcrud.blogspot.com/ dug this one up. Cigarettes + broken hearts = this song)

10. Cattcall – August (still winning)

10. Santogold – Creator (thanks to the Cup of Tease Show. No doubt I’m the last to jump on this wagon, but I’m gonna paint it good!)

10. Thao Nguyen & The Get Down Stay Down – Beat (been playing this one for a while but thought I’d bring it to the attention of readers if you’re not already loving this album: We Brave Bee Stings and All)

10. Bettye Swann – Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye (old times and sad times)

10. The Knux – Cappuccino (up beat hip hop that gets me outta bed and has a similar effect to the caffeine in the not-so-cool anymore to order but still a classic, Cappuccino)

10. J.J. Cale – album: Okie (Such a great album. All the songs are really short as if to make room for the many gems this guy has put in the rock tumbler. What?)

10. Shocking Pinks – End Of The World/Go To Sleep.

*Note the favouritism to female vocals. It’s like they’re singing the songs just for me hahaha. like that one Alicia Keys song You Don’t Know My Name where she rings me up like “hello, is that Michael?..”(true story).  It’s all sweet and easy on the ears.

Be sure to catch the remaining shows as they will be the last and the end of an era of my presents on Fleet FM. Mayybe 3 more to go!! So wake up and don’t sleep.

Shouts to: Jammy, Dim, Chris, Skitch, Talia + Matt, Volita, annd Damian(where you at!!)

ellipsis ellipsis ellipsis

June 10th, 2008 by michael

This may not have been one of my best shows, in fact it was pretty average, actually it was crap, it was horrible, well it wasn’t that bad, I kind of liked it, yeah it was pretty good, it was great, I loved it! MORE! MORE! -As my favourite Muppet skit would go. Any way what I’m trying to say is… it was a show which I’ll use for updating purposes. There were some songs I couldn’t play today that I really wanted to, but couldn’t for reasons.  A slow start and a sudden ending

A quick run down of the charts this week:

No. 1 Catcall – August (full credit to the lovely Katt who put me on to this one, check her show out on Saturday mornings 10-12, Fleet FM) No. 2 Shocking Pinks – End Of The World/Go To Sleep (thanks Andrew for the hook up. I Looooove this piece of vinyl!)

No. 3 Port O’Brien – I Woke Up Today (good energy morning song, been humming it all day. Djs can find it on the fleet wall)

No. 4 M.I.A (ft. Timbaland) – Come Down (it will grow old fast but that’s pop music for you, good pop music though, with funny noises “dindindindin din din beat goes on!” M.I.A is too cool)

No. 5 MF Grimm – Head in the Clouds (it’s been out a while but I’m still nodding my head to this. When Grimm came back on the scene with that really average Doom dis I thought it was all over for that guy. But he’s back after spending some jail time writing rad stories about security in heaven.  His flow is original to. “anyway, I say that to say this/ selling all the angel dust in heaven made him rich” )

No. 6 James Pants – album: Welcome (the whole album is bumpin’)

No. 7 Jonquil – Sudden Sun (off the album titled Lions, could’ve put any of their songs here. Sweet morning songs)

*8 Electralane – (it’s all good)* 9 Matmos –Sun on 5 at 152 *10 Joe Tex – Hold What You Got*

Shout out to Alex who now hosts the show after this (Tuesday 9am-11) and does a really great job. Also Kristina aka DJ Tina Turntables who has started doing Wednesdays 11am-1pm, one of my favourite shows on fleet! Annnd shot to Alex T who has also just joined the fleet fam hosting The Jazz Show on Sundays 8am-10am, dedicated!

i want to be evil

May 20th, 2008 by michael

I was having a bad start to the morning, 10 cents short of a bus trip! then i found 10 cents and another button at the same time, bonus! still to come… stories about Eartha Kitt, she wants to be evil and she wants to drink boooze.  plus, extremely violent dreams that were very enjoyable.

I’ll finish this update another day. for now though two thoughts. one: Kissey Asplund. sweeter than kisses, she’s on some Badu/J Scott type goodness. two: how do you upload shows?? hmm…  where it says location, what the what the who ha hay?

lost buttons

April 23rd, 2008 by michael

A Breakfast Show Named Tuesday. 7am-9am Tuesdays.

If anyone lost a large round black button in the Eden Tce area I’ve found it, and will be happy to return it to the loser. Otherwise it’s going in the collection.

Why would i wake up at six in the fucking morning(police knocking at my door) to stroll down the street and voluntar to do a radio show to an unkown listenership? why oh why??
